Picked this up for my blue 4500v. Good but can be better.
Pros:
Fit and Look
The strap in itself looks great. The colour is amazing and I love how they managed to mimic the texture and motif of the original.
I love how the rubber curves rather aggressively downwards as compared to VC’s rubber. For those who have smaller wrists < 6.5” like me, you’d find that VC flares out abit too much. So overall the fit is alot better.
I’ve been wearing this for two whole days (even to bed), and it’s super comfortable. It feels really soft and really light with the titanium clasp, and you can’t really feel it in your wrist.
Cutting the strap wasn’t as scary as some would describe. It gets better after the first cut.
Clasp
The spring leaf clasp is pretty cool. It’s sleek; no buttons or clips required and fits very securely. It’s probably one of the most convenient deployment clasps to operate.
There is also two holes for micro adjustment on each side, which really helps w a perfect fit. Tip: always cut the strap according to the inner and further most micro adjust hole on the lug. So it gives you room to adjust if should your wrist size increase down the line.
Cons:
Strap to lug connection
Firstly I commend the effort and guts to attempt this. Unfortunately, more R&D needs to be done. The strap connection doesn’t inspire much confidence. There is no reassuring “click” after attaching the strap, and there is a fair bit of resistance when clipping it on. And while I’m sure it’s been tested to be secure, I like to have that reassurance myself.
There is also a noticeable gap between strap and lug, especially at where the case indents. I understand that some gap is normal, (even on the original has one) due to the downward pressure when the watch is fastened, but it is a fair bit too obvious here.
Clasp
The clasp while cool, looks abit too plain. I went with the titanium gun metal because the steel ones look really…. for the lack of a better word, cheap. It looks like something you can find or AliBaba for $5.
The spring leaf while amazing, is a double edge sword (quite literally because man they’re sharp). As Delugs would market it… it closes with a satisfying snap. However, it’s a painful experience if you get your skin caught in the “snap”.
I found that the work around is to gradually release the pressure, instead of letting it go and just snap.
I am also not sure how the clasp will hold up with time, after multiple opening and closings.
Experience
The cut to size while great for a universal fit, felt abit like a budget experience especially at its price point.
Price and value
At around SGD440 with the titanium clasp, it is pretty expensive for a strap, and is priced very similarly to the straps I’ve got from VC. That was also probably the reason why it felt as if I was nitpicking when listing the cons above. I feel that if the price were abit more accessible, I wouldn’t mind getting it in other variations !
All in all, this would be a strap I would recommend to the community (of course with some caveats stated above). If this were a standard CTS strap I would have given this an easy 4 stars (price is a big factor hence not a full 5)
It is super comfortable and very convenient to operate.
Unfortunately there are some tweaks that need to be made for this VC specific strap. If Ken, Pei and team address all the issues listed, this and (the other CTS straps) could well be on all of my watches.
P Ps: pls make one for my 79220n! The new mosaic rubber looks lovely.
