Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am a long-time watch lover and collector born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I am also the founder of Complecto, a platform dedicated to elevating underrepresented voices in the watch industry.

When and how did you get into watches?

My watch journey began on my 8th birthday, when I received a blue Swatch with a dive bezel and yellow strap. I immediately felt like Jacque Cousteau the first time I put it on and watches would become a way for me to imagine and experience adventures.

Apart from watches and photography, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?

FYI - Photography isn't one of my hobbies :) Passions and hobbies beyond watches include cars (I'm a gearhead), music (and a musician), and delicious food (definitely a foodie!)

What is your favourite watch brand and why?

It's tough to choose one favourite, given the breadth of options and sheer diversity of genres in the hobby. But if I was forced to choose only one, it would be Rolex. No other brand combines build quality (robustness), iconic design, and innovation as consistently as Rolex has throughout its existence.

I also love the how deep their catalogue of unique and special watches goes. As ubiquitous as the brand is, there are so many special references still waiting to be rediscovered by collectors.

Hate them or love them, Rolex sets the tone that the entire industry follows, and I believe they've earned that right.

What is the one watch in your collection you never thought you would own, and why?

An Apple Watch! Despite my love for mechanical watches, I wasn't a smart watch hater. But I quickly realised that immense utility they offered, especially for my active lifestyle.

Are there any specific watch complications or features that fascinate you the most?

I've always been a sucker for a tourbillon, and while I recognize that it isn't a complication per se, there's something so incredible romantic about it. I also love the fact that it serves very little practical value in a modern wristwatch and that manufactures continue to invest the resources to manufacture them as a means to express their savoir faire.

Do you have any daily rituals related to watches?

I tend to change my watch 2-3 times per day, even if I never leave the house. I find joy in the most basic of things like winding and setting them, changing straps, and polishing smudges off of the crystals. I'll even break the loupe out once or twice a week to admire the movements on some of my more finely finished pieces.
