Strap Guide written by @samsveblenianobsession. Thank you Sam!
Introduction
The Reverso is a watch that needs little introduction. From its rectangular case shape to its Art Deco flourishes to its reversible face, this watch defines what it means to be an icon. Born for the polo fields, it is an early example of a watch purposed for sport, though over time it has become viewed as a dress watch. I don’t think it has to be one or another. This is where the importance of a good strap comes into play: while I agree the watch dresses up beautifully, with the right straps, the Reverso can be worn quite casually. Thanks to Ken and the good people at Delugs, I have a lot of fun options.
In this strap guide, I will be featuring my Reverso Grande Sun-Moon, reference 240.8.27. It has a day-night indicator, a moon-phase, running seconds, and an 8-day power reserve. It has an exhibition caseback that leans into its “Sun-Moon” moniker. The watch measures 47mm x 29mm, and my wrist is somewhere between 7-7.25” (17.75-18.5cm). The lugs width on this (and most Reversos) is 20mm.
Denim & Bordeaux Chevre Slim Strap
Chevre has recently become a favorite of mine. It is soft, durable, and is available in a wide variety of colors. The texture of goat hide is distinctive, and reads more casual than dressy. While the darker “Bordeaux” gives the watch a more sumptuous feel, the playful “Denim” breathes an element of fun into the pairing.
Glossy Lagoon Blue Crocodile Signature Strap
There is no doubt that alligator is the go-to material for a dress watch. I love the lively colors offered by Delugs, as they create opportunities to wear alligator more lightheartedly and casually. I am featuring the “Glossy Lagoon Blue”, which pairs perfectly with a pair of jeans.
Dark Grey Ostrich Signature Strap
Ostrich is a nice alternative to alligator if you’re looking for something dressy, but a little more exotic. I chose “dark grey” because I wanted something that was conservative and versatile, but would still function as a distinct and viable alternative to the standard grey alligator strap.
Navy Shell Cordovan Slim Strap
Between its lustrous finish, excellent durability, and deep coloring, I really like shell cordovan. The blue is a unique hue, and unlike other versions of “shell” straps I’ve encountered, this one does not feel overly dressy. I also appreciate the subtle blue-blue contrast stitch, it’s a fun touch.
Cobalt Barenia Signature Strap
This is my first Barenia strap. It’s a very soft calfskin, that feels surprisingly durable given how supple it is. I chose “Cobalt” because I dig the fun light blue shade, as well as the matching stitching. The result is a sleek, modern, and summer-ready strap, that works year-round in beautiful Southern California.
