Introduction

The Anoma A1 Slate is the kind of watch that doesn’t rely on heritage cues or loud detailing to make an impact. Its sculptural case and muted slate dial feel modern, deliberate, and quietly confident; almost like a design object that happens to tell time. And because the A1’s presence stems from form rather than flash, strap choices matter even more than usual: the right material and colour can either enhance its architectural vibe or soften it into something more understated and wearable on a day-to-day basis.

While I enjoy its original look, rotating straps is when the A1 really opens up. A simple swap can shift it from gallery-minimal to weekend-casual, or from monochrome restraint to tactile luxury — without ever fighting the watch’s clean design language.

Concrete Jungle

If you want the most seamless, ‘designed as one piece’ pairing, Concrete Jungle is the go-to. The cool-toned grey works effortlessly with the Slate dial, while the contrast edge and keepers add just enough definition to outline the watch’s silhouette. It leans into the A1’s architectural character — crisp, modern and intentional — making it my go-to for a clean monochrome outfit or a sharper, more minimalist work look.

Green Shell Cordovan Slim

Green Shell Cordovan sounds bold on paper, but on the wrist it reads as confident rather than loud — especially against the A1’s muted dial. The gloss and depth of cordovan bring a refined, almost dressy sheen that contrasts beautifully with the watch’s contemporary case. It’s the strap I’d choose when I want the A1 to feel a touch more luxurious, and I love that it will develop patina over time, adding warmth and character to an otherwise ultra-modern watch.

Colibri Chevre Slim

Chevre is one of my favourite materials for modern watches because it adds texture without visual clutter. The Colibri Chevre Slim keeps things light and wearable, with a subtle grain that complements the Slate dial’s calm tone. The result feels balanced and quietly elevated — perfect for daily wear when you want comfort, detail and a bit of softness without losing the A1’s clean, contemporary edge.

Matte Grey Storm Alligator Flank Stitchless

This is the ‘minimalist formal’ option. The Matte Grey Alligator brings undeniable sophistication, but the stitchless execution keeps it from feeling overly traditional. It’s a great example of contrast done right: Luxurious material, with restrained presentation. Paired with the A1 Slate, it gives a polished, gallery-ready vibe — ideal for evenings, smart tailoring, or any setting where you want the watch to feel intentionally elevated.

Sand Chevre Slim

Sand Chevre is the easiest way to shift the A1 into a softer, more relaxed mood. The warm, sandy tone brightens the slate dial, making the watch feel more casual and approachable — think weekend coffee runs, linen shirts or travel days. It’s still refined (chevre always is), but the colour adds a breathable, sunlit lightness that’s especially satisfying in warmer months.
