Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and moved to the UK a bit before COVID to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Upon graduation, I decided to stay in London and now work in finance.
When and how did you get into watches?
I have always been sort of into watches and my parents also have a small collection of watches. I have since realised that I was likely subconsciously influenced by my dad gifting my mum watches, and now use watch gifting as my own love language even!
One of the many topics my boyfriend and I had in common and bonded over, was our mutual enjoyment of staring at watches and I guess the proper obsession kicked off from there. Some weekends we would stroll through London and take an extra detour to go stare at the “time change” on the datograph which was on display in Harrods. I also then decided to get myself a Tissot PRX as my first personal purchase when I got my first paycheck.
Apart from watches and photography, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?
I absolutely love travelling, simply the exploration of new places and cultures, which also compliments my love for cooking! I believe it is largely influenced by my upbringing as well, where the gathering around a table and sharing food is an integral part of family life and I also very much enjoy cooking for friends and family. I also enjoy cycling quite a bit, albeit not actually doing it as much as I would like to. Cars is also a massive passion of mine, particularly Porsches!
What is your favourite watch brand and why?
Honestly, I haven’t found my favourite watch brand just yet, and I might never. There are certain elements or models that I am absolutely in love with in different brands.
On the more affordable end, I absolutely love Formex for their GADA watches like the Essence 39 and I also love Fears for the people behind the brand as well as the impeccable attention to detail. On the higher end, I very much love the fine dial finishing from H Moser & Cie, and also the astronomical complications from Christiaan van der Klaauw, and also the unique design language of Kudoke. Chronoswiss is also a Brand I really respect, and one of the very few brands that I felt like stuck to their original DNA more than others after a change in ownership. I guess A Lange & Söhne is probably the one that has captured my heart the most, especially after trying a few pieces, I am quite certain I would love to add one into the collection one day!
For me, it’s a lot about the people and story behind a brand.
What is the one watch in your collection you never thought you would own, and why?
I think I would say my Chronoswiss Regulateur. I recently made the purchase to celebrate a career milestone that I did not think I would reach. Furthermore, Chronoswiss also was not really on my radar and I did not know too much about them, especially because as much as I admire the innovation and craftsmanship behind their current designs, it is not quite for me personally. I owe my knowledge of the brand to several of my favourite podcasts, such as Scottish Watches, The Real Time Show, Superlative and Chrono Passion 7 podcast.
Are there any specific watch complications or features that fascinate you the most?
I love a moonphase design done well. I find the entire idea of a moonphase very fascinating because of the associated elegance that comes with it. It is also in a sense not essential to our daily lives but it is a nice reminder of how human life used to be inextricably interwoven with the lunar cycle.
Do you have any daily rituals related to watches?
I like to pick out my watch the night before and perhaps match it with an outfit. I tend to change my watches multiple times a day, especially when I’m on holiday and so I have to pick out my watch lineup of the day and then sometimes spare straps even. So I like to get all that done the night before - watch lineup as well as strap lineup.
Why did you decide to join the Delugs Ambassador program?
My journey with Delugs started back in 2020, when I first started exposing myself more into watches by buying some Seiko parts and putting together some mods for my dad and my boyfriend. I then decided to buy my mum a croc strap from Delugs for my mum’s Omega De Ville, which was a gift from my dad, and the strap was practically falling apart. Her old strap was so worn out and the straps offered by Omega were not only quite “boring” but also the quality was mediocre at best. So I bought one for her myself with my very first paycheck! I have since fallen in love with the brand have also gotten myself some Delugs goodies as well.
More importantly, I have loved witnessing the booming exponential growth of the brand, and the insistence on constantly improving and prioritising customer service and experience! I think Delugs very much aligns with my personal taste in watches - it is not just about the product, but also the stories and people behind them! I applied to the programme, quite simply because I really wanted to be able to represent and embody those values and that level of excellence and constant strive for perfection.
