Strap Guide: Daniel Roth Datomax

Strap Guide written by @olli.ver

Introduction

I’m more than happy to write these lines as part of my next guide in which I’m going to show you some examples and ideas of straps on the Daniel Roth Datomax.

This piece is the latest addition to my collection and I remember how I sat with some friends in Geneva in November last year, looking at some pieces and one of the pieces by Daniel Roth caught my attention. It was amazing to hold it in my hands and look at it, knowing that it’s been made by a man, who isn’t just any watchmaker, but a man who worked with for brands like Audemars Piguet and Breguet. At this time, I thought to myself that I’d like to add one of his pieces to my collection…

And at least, less than half a year later, I’ve been visiting an auction house in Germany, seeing some pieces of Daniel Roth in their catalogue and thinking that I have to take this opportunity. The decision to go for this exact piece here was quickly made, as I love it for its great proportions, design and simplicity. It’s the combination of the blued hands, small second, differently finished dial, the slim Roman numerals and the big eye-catching date window. But before spending more time telling you any background, let’s head to the actual status and check how this beautiful piece works with different strap combinations:

Taupe Epsom Slim (Curved) Strap

Let’s start with this very easy-to-wear and casual combination. The warmth of the taupe matches just so well with the rose golden case. It wears great with maybe a short-sleeved shirt in the summer or just a casual outfit, browsing around the city.

Green Buttero Slim (Curved) Strap

This might seem a bit different, but in my opinion, it’s just such a great way to raise a bit of attention and turn the Daniel Roth even more into a conversation starter. :)
The sleek surface of the Buttero compliments the different finishes on the dial and the green colour is just the right amount of pop and attention to make it work quite well.

Dark Brown Nubuck Slim (Curved) Strap

This is a slightly classier combination…combined with jeans, some nice nubuck or suede boots and other accessories this is the ultimate matching setup. Also, the texture of the strap works well as a counterpart to the more fine and rounded shape of the case.

Matte Grey Storm Alligator Signature (Curved) Strap

If the previous one was slightly classier, this is the one to put it on a real classy level. You can never go wrong with a great piece of alligator and even more when combined with a piece finished like this. The matte surface acts as a great counterpart to the shiny dial and puts it even more in the spotlight. In this case, combined with the butterfly clasp, it really puts the watch to a higher standard.

Light Grey Nubuck Slim Strap

Well, what shall I tell you…when you know the collection of Delugs, you know this Light Grey Nubuck Strap. :)

I just love how it turns this slightly more dress-related piece into a very casual daily wearer. Once again, the slight texture matches really well with the more plain optics of the watch. Put this on, grab a pair of jeans and a shirt, go into the city, get a coffee and enjoy the view when you check the time.

Grey Curved Rubber CTS Strap

Of course, the go-to choice for a piece like this will always be a leather strap, but why shouldn’t it be combined with something different? In this case, the Curved Rubber CTS strap with the great worked matching clasp. It fits so well and turns the Daniel Roth once again into an easy-to-wear casual daily piece. The slightly rounded edges carry on the edges of the case of the watch and the great worked clasp adds the feeling of class when wearing it on a casual basis.

And so, that’s it for my two cents regarding the Daniel Roth Datomax. Once again, I’d like to thank Delugs for the opportunity to show you these impressions here and hope you got some inspiration out of it.
