Introduction
The Chronomaster Sport in white is a beast of a watch with a beast of a movement. Ceramic bezel, 100m of water resistance, beautiful tri-color dial, and 60 hours of power reserve with a high-frequency automatic chronograph that is capable of measuring down to 1/10th of a second. With smaller 6.25 inch wrists, I was slightly worried about this watch due to its size. As you’ll see from the photos, however, this watch wears like a dream. In my opinion it wears like a 40mm thanks to the shorter lug-to-lug length, and I find it hard to believe it’s any thicker than 12mm. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Chronomaster and its bracelet go together like Rolex and never-ending waitlists. But what if I told you this engineering marvel not only can speak on leather, but even sing? If you’re a sports watch guy like me, you’re probably a fan of high quality bracelets and maybe even integrated rubber straps. While those are great, a high quality leather strap can give your watch an entirely new look and feel. I’m here to help you transform your Chronomaster with some beautiful recommendations from the ready-stock selection at Delugs.
Nubuck Black Ostrich Signature Strap
One might say that throwing an Ostrich strap on this watch would be a curveball, but I think this specific combo speaks for itself. I dare say this strap was made for this watch. The deep blacks, greys and overall cool undertones of the leather match the bezel and sub-dials perfectly. This combo is the epitome of cool, and is sure to be a talking point at dinner.
Cognac Shell Cordovan Slim Strap
Of all my selections, I think I’d consider this combo to be the actual curveball. Most of my picks for this watch tend to be more rugged, and mesh with the cooler tones of the Chronomaster. However, this Cognac Shell Cordovan strap is shiny, elegant and warm, giving the pairing a beautiful contrast. Not only will this leather develop a beautiful patina, but it’s a great way to dress up your chronograph.
Navy Pueblo Row-Stitch Strap
After a few minutes of inspection, I could tell the patina potential was strong with this one. The deep navy color perfectly matches the sub-dial, and the combo screams summer for me. Although, due to its low water and scratch resistance, I’d leave this bad boy on the towel when you take the kids to the pool. There’s always a compromise for beauty.
Black Epsom Slim Strap
Ok, I lied. If patina isn’t your cup of tea, there can be beauty without compromise. Say hello to Epsom. This strap is thin, flexible, and extremely durable. Playing to the sporty vibes of the Chronomaster, the embossed grain pattern and accent-stitching perfectly mirror the contrast between the dial and bezel. A word of caution: you may find yourself daydreaming about racing a (insert your favorite car here) down a windy mountain road.
Dark Grey Chevre Slim Strap
I’ve paired this Chevre strap with a black pullover and chinos for a smart-casual look. Although, this pairing feels the sportiest on-wrist. Like Epsom, Chevre is ultra-thin, pliable, and durable. In my opinion, however, it’s more versatile thanks to it’s smoother, and slightly glossier surface texture. I’d consider this an excellent gateway strap for those bracelet and rubber lovers.
