Introduction

The Historiques American 1921 is an iconic watch from Vacheron Constantin — one of the revered "Holy Trinity" of Swiss watchmaking. With its cushion case and angled dial, it is instantly recognisable among enthusiasts. What many don't realise is that the model comes in two case sizes: 40mm and 36.5mm. While the smaller version is often marketed towards women, both sizes share the same design, hand-wound movement and case materials. Personally, I believe the 36.5mm is the perfect dress watch for any enthusiast — its proportions are elegant and the 18K 5N pink gold case makes it an unexpected strap monster, effortlessly pairing with nearly any colour or material.

Glossy Grey Crocodile Flank Stitchless

A watch as refined as the 1921 calls for an equally luxurious strap. The new dusty pink shade feels like it was tailor-made for the pink gold of this Vacheron Constantin timepiece, even more so than the OEM red strap it originally came with. While it’s undeniably a feminine combination, I believe it would look fantastic on anyone cool and confident enough to rock it.

Green Alcantara Signature

If the previous combo is too delicate for your tastes, the Green Alcantara Signature strap is the perfect unisex alternative. Striking the perfect balance between sophistication and casualness, it’s an excellent choice for the colder months, pairing well with layers and darker tones. The Alcantara material is especially pleasing, both to the touch and the eye.
