Strap Guide: Tissot PRX

Strap Guide: Tissot PRX

Strap Guide written by @sidswatchlifeThank you, Sid!

Introduction

The Tissot PRX 40mm is iconic with its style and look, featuring a retro design with a modern twist, while also offering many different dial colours and even choices between quartz and automatic movements. For this guide, I wanted to focus on the version with the Ice Blue dial.

Many believe this watch looks best on its OEM bracelet, given how the case is a key part of the overall design. While I generally agree, I love changing the straps of my watches to match my outfits, bouncing between the metal bracelets and leather options. If it’s for a casual day out, you can’t go wrong with rubber straps. Or if I feel like adding some ‘pop’ to my outfit, some colourful straps usually do the trick.

With that in mind, I got to wondering: Which straps would best match the blue dial of my Tissot PRX?

Dark Grey Alcantara Strap for Tissot PRX

Let’s start off with something neutral: Dark grey is a good shade to pick due to its ability to complement a variety of outfits, from casual to formal. Furthermore, I was curious about Alcantara, since I already had other choices of leather and rubber lined up. Alcantara is such a cool material — it feels luxurious but also rugged enough to handle day-to-day use as a main strap. The material feels suede-like to the touch, but at the same time, distinctly different. The classy look of the material makes this a great choice for dressier attire. My choice is a classic white button-up shirt with a black sport coat, but this would also look great with a colored button-up shirt and a dark blue sport coat.

Mint Green CTS Rubber Strap for Tissot PRX

Let’s check out another classic option — the CTS Rubber strap. With this option, I wanted to add some colour to the watch, hence the Mint Green. Furthermore, I figured that this would pair well with the pastel tones of the dial. Immediately, this watch stands out. However, I feel this is best suited to a casual outfit, considering how loud it is, although you could wear it with a suit, if you have the confidence to pull it off. When sized perfectly, the straps are very comfortable to wear all day and even come with a micro-adjustment feature. The combo of mint green and ice blue works great with the timeless combination of a t-shirt and blue denim jeans, or even just throwing on a hoodie.

White Chevre Strap for Tissot PRX

The Chevre Slim strap has a nice texture to the touch, but what truly stood out was its colour. White straps are quite uncommon, and I was curious how this strap would look on the ice blue dial of the Tissot PRX. A quick preview with the Delugs’ Strap Finder, and I was sold. But my next thought was, “How would I pull this off?” I found that while this particular combo isn’t exactly screaming “look at me”, it is just enough to catch the eye. Initially, found this to be a dressier strap pairing, so I ended up throwing on another button-up shirt with a sport coat to go with it. In truth, I think this combo is actually quite versatile, with the white leather balancing out the blue dial.

Orange Saffiano Strap for Tissot PRX

Saffiano is another leather choice that I simply couldn’t pass up. Under the right lighting, the texture of the material becomes very noticeable, particularly with the orange shade. The strap also feels very good on the wrist, and like all Delugs straps, we’re talking all-day comfort. So, why did I pick orange out of all the other available colours? At the time of writing, October is rolling around (and so is Halloween), and Orange Saffiano felt like the obvious pick because of the pumpkin associations. Also, I wanted to see how well an orange strap would look with the PRX’s Ice Blue Dial. Style-wise, I feel this combo is much more versatile than most people would assume, and it works with both casual and dressier attire. I found the best option was a button-up shirt under a V-neck sweater. Even though this started as a seasonal pick, I have a feeling this strap pairing will be sticking around, even after Halloween has run its course.

Matte Astral Blue Alligator Strap for Tissot PRX

When I was thinking of another ‘safe’ colour choice for straps, my mind immediately went to this one. Blue is one of those colours that goes well with just about everything, and given the Ice Blue dial, this strap was practically a no-brainer. Alligator leather is a classic dress watch strap choice, and the Matte Astral Blue colour is a standout pick that also adds a dash of playfulness to your watch. When it comes to the PRX with the Ice Blue dial, this strap just melts into the watch with its tone-on-tone colour matching. I’ve been wearing these straps on and off for a few months now, and I find that this combo works for both casual and formal attire. I like my black t-shirts, and I find this combo is not too distracting, even with the contrast. It also complements summer colours perfectly. Honestly, I feel this is one of those combos that you can stick with throughout the year, especially if you spend most of your time in an office setting or sitting in long meetings, like I do.
