Strap Guide: Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph

Strap Guide: Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph

Strap Guide by written by @the.timepiecer

The Breitling Navitimer is one of the most iconic and recognisable watches. The portmanteau of “navigation” and “timer”, its unique slide rule bezel allows for various calculations like speed, distance and even conversions. A design like no other. Since its 1954 release to AOPA members, and general market availability in 1956, it has went through various iterations without losing that Navitimer look. The latest iteration, in my view, is the most balanced yet, an equilibrium between function and form.

Despite the myriad of popular chronographs out there in the market, the Navitimer has always had my heart. Perhaps it is my fascination with flight and space, its firm domain, that attracts me to it. And whilst it looks beautiful on its 7-link bracelet, I must confess – I prefer it on a strap.

So how do you pair straps with an icon? Here we explore some options as well as what I would wear with it.

Grey Barenia Signature

The grey Barenia strap gives the Navitimer the versatile look with cool tones, that casual demeanour whilst still having its luxury feel. Perfect for those smart casual-type settings but comfortable enough to be dressed down.

Think of a Merino wool jumper during the chillier months whilst sitting by a roaring fireplace.

Mocha Crazy Horse Side-Stitch

This is one crazy pairing. Rugged-looking and will develop a unique character of its own, the Crazy Horse gives the Navitimer the full toolwatch vibe. The side stitch – the icing on the cake. If I want to dial up the cool, weathered factor  up to 11, leather jacket & boots on, this would be my choice.

Black Saffiano Signature

How do you make the Navtimer looks refined with a strap? With the cross-hatch grain of Saffiano leather! With its robustness an added bonus, this leather’s classy patterns nicely complement the darker elements of the watch giving it a more formal appearance. A nice jacket and shirt would be elevated by this rather tasteful look.

Black Rubber CTS

Where the OEM 7-link bracelet failed, the CTS succeeded in bringing the perfect fit. The CTS line has been a roaring success since its launch and until now I have not seen it paired with the Navitimer. Now you have and it is every bit as good as it looks. Whilst not one for getting wet, the CTS & Navitimer combo would be great for those warm days whilst clad in linen.

Delcro Red/White

This one is the surprise package of the bunch. I wanted to complement the red chronograph hand of the Navitimer. And where curiosity took me is to a place of wonderful discovery. With comfort levels up to maximum, the vibrance of the Delcro’s red shade makes for a bold combination that is sure to make your timepiece stand out.
