Strap Guide: Rolex Datejust 126234

Strap Guide written by @aslaponthewristThank you Pramukh Jadhav!

Green Crazy Horse Side Stitch

The Datejust 36 is a classic offering from Rolex, it comes in multiple variations this one here is ref: 126340 in its original configuration the watch comes with a stainless steel case, black dial, applied indices, fluted white gold bezel and finished off with a beautiful jubilee bracelet. It can be just as dressy as it can be sporty. Some people consider it sacrilege to wear the DJ on anything other than the bracelet, having changed many straps on this baby, I would venture to say the watch looks beautiful on a variety of straps and each of them give it a special and unique vibe.

If you are looking to give that newer model Datejust a vintage look but still keep it very casual, here's the strap for you. The strap tends to scratch a bit upon daily use, which causes patina and the changes in color tones change gives it cool vintage vibes as the strap ages.

Given that this strap is green, I'm going with the golf theme and it's The Masters Sunday, no better day than today for a golf nut. I would definitely be sporting this combination out on the course, or even wear it with a blazer at the 19th hole to down some drinks with the boys. #makinggolflookgood #watchwearinggolfer

Technical aspects:

The strap is lined with Zermatt leather to give the strap some structure and is 2.5mm thick instead of the usual 2.2mm, ensuring a sturdy strap even as you go casual.

If you are in the market for straps for your watches, I would highly recommend checking out Delugs (www.delugs.com). As you will see with all the straps by @delugs, the quality is second to none. The Leather is of great quality and made with the highest craftsmanship. Their straps come with quick release pins and the buckles are very sturdy and come engraved with their branding.

Natural Shell Cordovan Slim

This time around let’s dress this baby up really nice. Shell Cordovan straps are known for their dressy nature, high gloss finish and with the slim style makes slide down under the cuffs of your dress shirt quite easily.

Although I don't usually go for lighter shades, this natural strap to my own surprise does great on my wrist and skin complexion and provides contrast when worn with darker colored shirts. A complete 360 from a sporty look, is achieved by a simple strap change, swipe on through to see how I wore it under my dress clothes.

Technical aspects:

The leather comes from the hind of a horse, extremely durable. The strap is slim with a thickness of 2.2mm. The buckle is brushed stainless steel with Delugs engraved on it. Quick release spring bars to make swapping out straps a breeze.

Did you know?

Every strap by @delugs is saddle stitched by hand by one of their leather artisans.

Black Saffiano Stitchless

The first thing that catches the eye is the embossed pattern on this strap and look closer, no stitches, kinda cool right? Did I also mention water and scratch resistant too?

The way I would wear this combination? It could be my everyday work watch, the black dial, stainless steel case and black strap combination is a classic and can go with any type of shirt - Formal shirts, casual shirts, tees. I would even wear it out for an evening with family and friends, parties or any occasions.

If you are not a fan of the black, this strap comes in 11 other colors.

Technical aspects:

Strap style is stitch less, with a thickness of 2.2mm. The buckle is brushed stainless steel with Delugs engraved on it. Quick release spring bars to make swapping out straps a breeze.

Did you know?

Delugs makes straps in 3 different lengths - Small (105/65), Medium (115/70), Large (125/75). Make sure you order the right size for you. With a wrist size of 6 inches, I usually get the smaller lengths ones as they don’t wrap around :D

Red Alcantara Signature

Going all Mr. Wonderful today. Red straps on watches, have become synonymous with Kevin O'Leary (investor and businessman) especially since he wears his watches with a red strap on the TV show #sharktank

I am not one to shy away from bold and bright colors, I have a bunch of red straps, but this Alcantara is quite amazing all due to its velvety soft texture and lightweight nature, it has a very luxurious feel. On the black dial Datejust, the strap adds a fun element and gives the watch much needed contrast. I wear this combination with almost anything, lighter colored shirts, tees and even wore it under a suit to an office party.

If you are not into red color straps, I would encourage you to try it. It does make the watch pop and can draw some attention to it, but it’s worth it when you look down and see how beautiful the combo is. I can positively say that a red strap works great with almost any dial and case material. Otherwise Delugs makes 10 other color straps with this material.

Technical aspects:

This strap has a very slight padding, so the thickness near the lugs is at 4.5mm slimming down to 2.2mm towards the end. The buckle is brushed stainless steel with Delugs engraved on it. Quick release spring bars to make swapping out straps a breeze.

Did you know?

The straps are lined with Zermatt leather which is Hypoallergenic and is water/sweat resistant.

Baby Blue CTS Rubber

Yes, this is a do it yourself, customizable, cut to fit your wrist strap. This is genius. I have always had a problem with the strap length since my wrists are small and especially if it has a butterfly clasp, the extra length of strap really makes it irritating to wear on the wrist.

Now coming to the watch and strap combo, the Datejust is conventionally worn on a bracelet to give it a sporty look, but to hell with that, this combination along with T-shirt and shorts to the beach or pool, yeah that’s what I’m talking about.

The process is very simple, you can measure your wrist or try it the way I did it, or you could just keep cutting off each of the cut-out pieces until you have a perfect fit. The package comes with 3 straps, the reasoning behind this is pretty cool too, once you cut the straps my 36mm watch fits differently than a 39mm or 42mm watch. All you need in addition to you existing strap removal tool is a scissors (fair warning, don’t do this while drunk 😊)

The butterfly deployant strap has a leaf spring mechanism that snaps on like a magnet. It takes a couple of minutes to get used to taking it off, but it’s kinda cool.

Technical aspects:

The straps are made out of FKM flouroelastomer and has a matte finish, unlike other rubber straps, it doesn’t attract dust. You will need a spring bar tool to attach the ends of the strap to the clasp.

This brings us to the end of the @Delugs strap guide for the Rolex Datejust 36. Hope you liked it, let me know which combo you would rock out of the 5 I have shown in my highlights. Thanks for reading along.
