Strap Guide written by @timeonlywatch.id. Thank you, Pradipta!
Introduction
In the post-COVID world, the brand Patek Philippe probably resonates the most with its integrated sports watch creation (i.e. the Nautilus and Aquanaut).
Not saying that I’m the most seasoned watch enthusiast, but since I was first introduced to the brand, I’ve always been intrigued by how a plain and simple watch (like their time-only Calatravas) could become so iconic, and that’s probably one of the reasons behind my IG username.
Yet there’s nothing plain and simple about the watch we have here, the Annual Calendar reference 5205G-013, my first from the brand and also my first complications watch. I love how the watch effortlessly displays time, day, date, month, 24-hour time, and moonphase, all in a very elegant way. Plus, I’m not forgetting that it’s also an annual calendar watch.
The white accents contrasting with the blue fumé dial made choosing the straps for this Strap Guide so much easier. Whenever I feel more dressy or casual, I can mix and match the straps from Delugs, and the watch gladly complies. Without further ado, here are my selections:
Dark Brown Alcantara Signature
One of the hesitations for most people (including myself) before choosing a watch like this over the plethora of popular sports watches out there is that it might be too dressy. I paired it with the alcantara strap because it was the furthest thing from an OEM strap made for that specific reference. When I want to wear the watch as a ‘daily’, I just go with this strap, and it’s always a pleasure to witness the 5205G dressed up as a more casual watch.
The alcantara texture contrasts amazingly well with the all-polished white gold case, and you can’t go wrong with the dark brown colour as it complements almost every dial colour out there.
Matte Dolphin Grey Alligator Signature
In both of the previous Strap Guides that I made for Delugs, I’ve always included a grey strap in them. So it’s hardly a surprise to see something similar being featured here. Delugs has a ton of grey colour options for you to choose from in their collection. And if you love grey as much as I do, you’ll probably end up with plenty of grey straps in your shopping cart while deciding.
The matte dolphin grey alligator signature is probably my pick of the bunch. An alligator strap blends so well with the 5205G since it’s what the watch comes paired with in the first place. But the dolphin grey colour makes such a difference to its overall appearance. It’s matted in texture, so you can rock it with your favourite jeans and t-shirt and yet, it won’t feel out of place when you wear it in the boardroom.
Glossy Lagoon Blue Crocodile Signature
A blue strap on a blue watch is a no-brainer choice. But we’re not talking about any blue coloured strap here. The glossy lagoon blue colour offers so much character; you’ll also discover a turquoise hue in it.
The blue fumé dial colour, paired with a blue-ish turquoise strap combination, just blows my mind. None of my other monochrome watches measures up when paired with this strap. In the rare times when I’m feeling bold, this is the combination that I reach for.
Cream Baranil Signature
Though it appears smooth from afar, baranil actually has a very fine grain to it when you try it on. Its suppleness gives it a precious impression, and you might even hesitate to pick it as a daily strap, but Delugs actually recommends it as an everyday option, citing its moderate scratch resistance.
I chose the cream baranil signature as the ‘smooth’ strap to go with the 5205G. It’s the perfect strap for me during seasons when the sun doesn’t come out as much. The light colour attracts the perfect amount of my attention when I travel abroad with it during autumn and winter. And as always, the combination of blue and cream is simply *chef’s kiss*.
