Our signature watch strap in Buttero is the second item in our Signature line. Each strap is padded, lined and handstitched, using a veg-tanned leather that is extremely popular amongst leathercrafters. Being veg-tanned means that the strap is stiff to begin with, but within a few days of wear it will mould to the shape of the wearer's wrist. While all of the straps are identical to begin with, over the weeks, months and years of wear, the strap will quickly patina and become unique to the owner. What's patina? I'll let the folks over here tell you all about it. In a nutshell, more wear, more patina, more sentimental value.
All watch straps will come with a silver tang buckle and quick release bars, so that you can easily swap out between your favourite watch straps and not have to fuss about scratching your watch lugs. No one will judge you for changing straps every day!
Note: All Buttero straps are made-to-order and will take around 4 weeks before it is shipped out.
The main and lining leather used is Buttero from Conceria Walpier tannery in Italy.
See here for more details on the leather we use, because calling them "full grain leather" or "genuine leather" on its own does not do it justice.
There are a total of 4 layers of various material that goes into each strap, with each layer serving a specific purpose. From top to bottom, they are: (1) exterior leather, (2) padding, (3) synthetic strengthener, (4) lining leather.
All layers are firstly glued and pressed together, before they are stitched. Finally, the edges are burnished to seal the edges, which protects the leather from wear and tear, and water damage, over time.
